Hi All,

Just wondering what people do for road rash other than cleaning and antibiotic ointment. I crashed this weekend during a tri (and had to DNF--couldn't stand up let alone run) and other than a calf strain and some swelling most of the road rash is superficial. I've read about various topical treatments to speed healing and reduce scarring but wonder what the consensus is on this. Right now, I am leaving the shoulder rash dry but it is itching like crazy! The leg had some punctures from the chain I assume and that I've put antibiotic ointment on.

Thanks! Oh, no pics but it did happen!

I had some nasty road rash from a crash in June. I kept mine covered until it was no longer seeping anything. I also used generic neosporin on it. A nurse told me that after it began healing, I should use vitamin E on it. Basically, she suggested buying vitamin E in gel capsule form, breaking open the capsule, and rubbing that on the wounds to help with scarring.

We did a bunch of research on the most recent findings on abrasion wound treatment and summarized our findings here:

That's a great article. I need to obtain some supplies to start a road rash kit so I am prepared for next time.
