Subject: USAT Sanctioning Taken Away
I just found out the HIM I was planning to do in September, Lake Geneva WI had its USAT Sanctioning taken away two years ago. Can someone explain what the sanctioning does? why it might be taken away? and how I should feel about participating in a race that lost it?

Thanks
Suzy

It may or may not matter.  If USAT actually took away the sanctioning, it could be for good reason.  On the other hand, the race director may have chosen not to have it sanctioned; I've heard they can save on insurance by getting insurance through someone other than USAT.

You need to look into it, but race history probably means more than USAT sanctioning.  If it is USAT sanctioned I gather there has to be USAT trained officials, USAT approved course (that they probably have never seen in person), USAT insurance, and maybe other stuff.

Let's just say the race director who runs that race has acquired a reputation for not running very well-organized races-- finally, USAT took notice.

If your USAT ranking is important to you, this race will not count towards it.

Check into the RD........one Frank Dobbs. The guy is a moron! I've been burned by him on a few occasions.....maybe i'm the moron, I guess. IMO it's a crime if the guy makes any money off the events he runs.

If you've already paid, do the race. If you haven't, I would look for another HIM.

Good luck.

Yeah, Frank Dobbs races are known for having additional obstacles like unguarded intersections with busy roads and sprint/oly/him courses that crisscross each other.  Nothing like dodging cross traffic to keep you from zoning out.
