Not sure if this is the appropriate place, if it's not, I will delete it!

I'm new here! After looking into several training groups in the area I was disappointed to find out that very few of them are actively meeting right now.

I'm just getting into triathlons and I'm looking for people to run, bike or swim with.  I have a sprint tri in August that I'm training for.  I have a coach, so I have a training plan set up.  But I'd like to learn basics from other triathletes if possible.  I have no idea if what I do is correct and working with the coach helps, but training with other athletes is great too.

Eventually I'd like to work up to half ironman after I get a few sprints in and work on my swimming endurance and transitions.

If you're interested, or know of any active groups that are accepting membership, please reply!

Otherwise, this is one of the few active message boards I've seen for Triathlons in the Providence area, so I'll stick around.

Hi Kate- Welcome to the amazing world of triathlon and congratulations on signing up for your first race in August!

I think many of us have found this to be the case here in Rhode Island.  There are several small groups that meet together, some of the more "elitists" don't like to let beginners into their inner sanctum as they are usually too busy training to help out-not that they're bad people...let's just call them focused.

There are several people on BT that will post where and when they are training and offer to let others join in.  You will also find the peeps out here on BT to be very supportive and helpful as well.

It would help to give an idea of where you are located and when you plan on training.  Although RI is the smallest state, we usually don't travel outside of our comfort zones-it all depends on what side of the bridge you're on....

You're welcome to join me and others for OWS after work at Barrington Beach if you're in that area.

Kate,

Welcome to BT and RI Forum. There are a few "regulars" here that my chime in for some advice. Like you I do most of my training alone, however there are group swims in Narragansett that I've heard are pretty good. You can get more info by calling Fred Bartlett at Camire's in Narragansett. There is also a Providence Tri Team but I don't know anything about them. Are you training for WildDog in Bristol?

^^^^^Hey Kevan looks like we are neighbors!

Welcome Kate!  Don't be lonely!!  I find I often meet up with BTers from MA & CT but would love to have more RI folks to call.  What race are you training for??

HA!  Hi there neighbors!

I will be doing track workouts at Barrington High, swims at Barrington and Bristol beaches, and long runs on the bike path.  Anyone is welcome to join-no worries about the pace.  Weekend bike rides will be a minimum of 56 miles but all are welcome as well.

Races I am doing next: Newport Naval sprint, Wilddog sprint, Timberman 70.3, FIRM 70.3, Cranberry Olympic(maybe) and Buzzards Bay sprint.

Thanks for all the replies!  Didn't mean to sound desperate there.

I'm training for Wild Dog Sprint tri and Buzzards Bay Sprint tri, and hopefully will be into longer distance tris by next year or the year after.  I was also looking at the dualthon they host in Wrentham in October.

I'm live in Seekonk and work in Warwick, so I can pretty much drive anywhere!  And frankly, I probably will.

I do have a tri coach, but unfortunately most of the time I have to pay her to train with me.  Not that I mind since she's super.  So I'm looking forward to looking for postings on the board.

Kevan has been nice enough to invite me to do some OWS.  Which I am equally excited and terrified for.

It's nice to see there are people here to talk to.

Thanks again!
