Subject: Water Intake
Hi everyone! I'm a relatively new poster, but I've been lurking on the site for around a month. I've been doing some walking/running and biking in the morning before work. I'm a nurse, so unfortunatly that means that my exercise schedule can be a bit erratic. I'm hoping to lost about 20 lbs and get back into shape.

The big thing that I am focusing on right now is my water/fluid intake. I have a huge problem with this. It's not that I don't like water, it's just that I naturally don't drink very much of anything (water, soda, tea, juice, etc). I have a very low fluid intake in general. Does anyone else have this issue, and how do you correct it? On a typical day that I'm not really forcing the issue, I usually have 24-32 oz of fluid. On a day I force myself, I can maybe get that up to 50, but even that isn't nearly where I should be.

I had the same problem about 10 years ago when I started dieting.

I was never a big drinker and did not drink water at all!

At some point I just decided to change that and create a habit. I started to drink at least 3 litres (about 100 oz) every day and just forced myself in the beginning and at some point (I think it says it takes 3 weeks to create a habit) it just started to be the most normal thing in the world.

Now I do it without thinking about it. It´s just part of my life....

I sometimes find myself to have this problem, too. On certain days, I can drink a ton of water without any problems. But on some days, I have to force myself to finish my 32oz water bottle that I keep on my desk. On the days where drinking more water is difficult...I actually feel worse...like drinking more just makes me feel bloated and very uncomfortable...which of course, just makes me NOT want to drink more.

It's hard to get to the point that drinking plain water is as common as getting up in the morning. The world in which we live promotes carbinated soft drinks, drink aids, or whatever else they think they can get us to buy because of taste, convenience, and accessibility.

For me trying to get to the point of drinking more water than soda, kool aid, was easier once I... I mean my wife and I stopped allowing it in the house. Instead we keep lightly sweetened green tea, skim milk and at least 2 cases of bottled water in our home at all times. "Nothing else"!

I've actually grabbed a bottled water to go with my lunch and/or dinner!

Hope this helps.Wink

they say it takes 21 days to create or break a habit, so what I would do is first thing in the morning drink a big glass of water have it beside your bed,  then after breakfast have a second glass of water and whenever you eat after that so after supper you should have had 6 glasses of water (that's if you have 2 snacks) have one more before bed and that brings your total to 7 glasses. I would start off with just a cup at a time and then increase to amount over time.

Please be aware that your bathroom use will go way up when people hydrated. People don't realize this and cut back on drinking water because they are using the bathroom to much, they think it abnormal to go more then 1-3 times a day.

Oh and drinking water before you eat helps you to eat less, which can help with weight loss if done in a healthy manner.
