Have fun.  It's a great route - if you like hills.

I am! Totally under prepared though. My last tri was hagg lake and I haven't done much training since so wish me luck, I'll need it.

I didn't think there were many hills for a century. Actually it seemed on the flat side. However there are a few short steep drops where you come up quick on a blind sharp turn. At one of those a number of us could not make the turn. Luckily there was a small road you could use as a run out. So be forewarned! Careful on the down hill.

I guess I count the two 750 foot climbs at 6%+ grade as hills.  Agreed that the route out of and back into Portland is nice and flat.  But the climb around Eagle Fern and then again coming away from the Sandy River are good climbs, IMHO.  I guess it's all in your perspective.  I've never done the climb up to Timberline or any of the torture rides.  I also ran HTC the two days prior to the ride last year, so those hills were kicking by a$$.

If you get passed by someone on a Gary Fisher mountain bike wearing an orange '08 STP jersey, that's me.

Hope everyone had fun out there today.  I ended up doing the half, and had a great time.  Glad I didn't do the full.  It was nice that it wasn't too hot today.

It was almost a little cold this morning and it sprinkled for a couple minutes in Sandy.  Not exactly what they had forecasted.  But it cleared up and was a really nice day.

My excitement for the day came during the climb out of the Sandy river canyon past the Bull Run Res.  About 50 feet in front of me, a black bear ran out from the bushes and started to cross the road.  He paused about 1/3 of the way across and looked at me for a split second.  He then high tailed it across the road and up the embankment on the other side.  That was definitely a first for me.  I've run across raccoons, skunk, and other small animals out riding.  But never a bear!
