Subject: Looking for some suggestions
I have not had a training plan.  I've been doing as much as I can, when I can in order to get ready for an OLY next month.  I feel like I had been doing well to divide focus between the three events but then it seems I started spending more time swimming because I wanted to be sure I could complete the mile swim.  I feel confident about completing the swim now and I'm going to guess that I'll do it in around 35 min.  However, I realize that I have to put more time into the bike and run.

I want to ride 4 nights over the next 2 weeks and then do a longer ride on the weekend.  I'm thinking of doing 18 mile rides followed by 3 mile runs on the treadmill.  Will doing these distance bikes and runs help me (assume I'm going to be pushing to go faster, or with an increased HR) or should I be more focused on longer distance bikes and runs?  The main reason for suggesting this is that it gets dark earlier but I know I could get an 18-20 mile bike in (actual OLY course too) and get home to run on the treadmill.  I find it difficult to run as far on the treadmill as I can run outside because I get bored.

Suggestions on what to do differently?  One reason I thought this may work is that there are two big hills on the way to the actual OLY bike course and I'll get to work on the two very steep hills on the OLY course too.

Where is your recovery day?  i do active recovery (like an ez swim) once per week.  It's important.  It's where you build.

As for your biking and running....mix it up, add some short hard intervals, do one of them tempo pace, etc.  I think you could easily drop one of those week day bikes.

I have not had a recovery scheduled yet but I have taken one when I start a workout and feel fatigued.  For example, I took one Friday and it felt great.

So I'll look to pull a day out for a scheduled rest or just change one of those swim workouts to an ez swim.  I love ez swims and I won't feel guilty about a day off.

As for the run, will the shorter distances be to my advantage even if they are shorter? (assuming I run at a faster pace)

Thank you for your input.  I appreciate it.

I train with Jorge....so anything i attempt to say is just want i've learned from him.  He would say short runs are not filler workouts.  They all add up.  It's the sum of all your fitness that counts....

btw...why the heck aren't ya following a plan?!!!  lotsa plans for lotsa styles.  no need to reinvent the wheel!

I will follow a plan after this first tri.  I had a hard time finding something that fit at first.
I have actually e-mailed Jorge concerning hiring him for 2010 so I'm sure I'll be more structured then.

He had a race today and is on vaca for another week, so if you don't hear back, shoot him another email sometime after 8/31.
