Swim
  • 30m 20s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

My best open water swim ever and it seemed easy. I was much less fatigued coming out of the water than either of the 2 prior 750 open water swims this year.
Transition 1
  • 01m 10s
Bike
  • 1h 19m 38s
  • 25 miles
  • 18.84 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt great on the bike. Could probably have pushed my pace a little more, but wanted to pace myself to have a decent run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Run
  • 1h 01m 57s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Went for a relatively easy pace due to fears about repeating last years performance of blowing up on the run. Felt comfortable the whole time.
Post race
Event comments:

Met one of my season goals of finishing an Olympic distance race in less than 3 hours!

Donna, I am contemplating attempting this one, how was it ...especially from a slow, beginner, back -of packer (where all the cool kids are anyways) perspective....

I think you said it was wetsuit legal last year, so I have a wetsuit coming...I may try to go up and swim/ride/run the course one day and see for myself,,,,although it will probably be some long transitions and just a good training day thing. I may post it here and on utc site and see if I can get some company....

Michael....How did you dig up this report? I like the FOF course. Lake greenwood has a little bit of chop, but no waves. Ive swam it with a wetsuit and without and would definitely wear it if allowed. The bike course is new this year, though most of it is similar, but goes in the opposite direction which I think will make it a little faster. It is rolling. No significant climbs and a lot like what most of us are used to riding in the Upstate. The run is also rolling, but again no heartbreak hills until the very end when you have to finish up a 9% grade. It is short though. The main road is closed to traffic which is nice. It can be very hot that time of year and there is little shade the first 2 miles out and then back. The middle 2 miles turn into the park where it is shaded and a welcome break! I think you will do just fine. the post race meal is usually provided by outback and is very good. I am not doing it this year because I am doing Latta Plantation the week before on top of Lake Murray, a relay at Clemson, and my first 1/2 IM yesterday! I'll be taking a well deserved break after Latta.
