Subject: How I amuse myself during boring meetings
I told this story to a friend of mine earlier today and had him laughing, so I thought I'd share---

In my job, I have to attend some rather boring meetings. So a few years ago, I started playing games (in my head) that keep me amused.

The first one is sort of like "Survivor"--I look around the conference room and imagine that I am stranded on an island with the people in the room. I'll think things like, "Oh, those two would totally have a power struggle over who was in charge," or "those two would definitely hook up," or "that would be the crazy one running naked in the jungle." But that got boring after a while since most of my scenarios ended up with me building a raft and trying to escape!

The second one occured to me about two years ago. The conference room was overcrowded as a group of sales reps who were making a major pitch. So as this one man was droning on and on about his product, all of a sudden I thought, "Wow! He looks just like Gargomel on the Smurfs." So then, I started looking around the conference room and trying to decide what cartoon character each person looked like. I thought, "OK. She's Daphne from Scooby Doo and he's Wimpy from Popeye...." And it kept me entertained....

So, I'm wondering if anyone else does goofy stuff like this in boring meetings? If not, then maybe that is why I'm just a director and not a VP in my company....ha!

Not during meetings or anything, but you did strike a bit of a chord there. I often look at people in public and decide whether or not they look like their pets.

Luckily I don't have to attend many meetings but I, too, look at people and try to determine if they look like their pets!  It is funny how many actually do.

Bettylou: "OK. She's Daphne from Scooby Doo and he's Wimpy from Popeye...."

Droner "...which of course depends on 4th quarter projects, don't you agree, Bettylou?"

Bettylou "um, err,... jinkies!"

hee hee!

My job is like yours, but I had never thought of such an imaginative way to pass the time. I can't wait for my next meeting with Underdog and Spongebob.

Holy crap, that's me! I've been playing that game forever. I thought I had invented that game, but whatever. Sometimes I call mine "Lord of the Flies," though, and it's more violent.

I've made a bingo board before (and put it under the last page on a pad of paper).  In the squares, I put those dumb phrases that business people tend to use like:  paradym, synergy, enhance revenues, etc.  When someone says one of the words or phrases, I cross out the square and see how long it takes to make BINGO!  Keep score from meeting to meeting and see how quickly it happens each time. It does make the time go quicker.

Other than that, I've got some games on my blackberry that I will play.  Everyone think's I'm keeping up with my email.  I'll never tell!
