Subject: RE: Support the troops????Interesting intellectual position on the issue of war...now let me take my boot off of Mr Stein's larynx so he can elaborate on what he meant by: "But blaming the president is a little too easy. The truth is that people who pull triggers are ultimately responsible, whether they're following orders or not. An army of people making individual moral choices may be inefficient, but an army of people ignoring their morality is horrifying." Soldiers in war make moral choices. But whether or not to pull the trigger is not a moral choice. It's a "I'm going to kill you so you don't kill me or my buddy so we can go home to see our families" choice. This is another example of an intellectual trying to explain something about which he has absolutely no first hand knowledge. I'm sure Mr. Joel Stein would have a different opinion about the men who defeated the Nazis in WWII by ingnoring their own morality. What's horrifying is people who fail to understand that there are commitments that one makes that supercede one's own morality. Would he question the individual morality of our soldiers if our enemies were pouring over our borders and parachuting into our cities? These guys signed up to serve without question. You have a problem with the war, fire the phuking politicians that sent them there. Don't bash the guys that protect us and allow us to sleep with both eyes closed at night. What a jacka$$. |
