Subject: Full IM by Sept 1st?
I just came off swim season:
I could go 10k max in one workout, 14k in one day.

At the end of tri season last year (sept 1st), I did an olympic in 2h 25m. My training distances usually were: run: 10ish kilometers, bike 30-50km

Is it doable without finishing in 16 hours?

With a decent base I think you have plenty of time. Have you been biking or running at all this winter?

piggpen35 - 2006-03-08 4:02 PM Have you been biking or running at all this winter?

I think that's the BIG question.  Then again, I did an Ironman, Western Australia, at the end of November last year and I only started biking 11 months earlier.  However I was quite a good runner at that time and I had no trouble swimming 4000m.

Even though you can swim, A LOT by the way, the swim is such a SMALL part of an Ironman.  So even if you could swim 20km in one day, it really wouldn't matter...as you only have to swim 3.8 during the IM.  It's the 180km on the bike and 42.2 on your feet that will be your biggest obstacles.

I guess the biggest question is...HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT!?!?

Because one thing I can tell you for sure is that training for an Ironman is no walk in the park.  You've got to want it...and want it BAD!!

It can be done.

I registered for my IM on March 31 last year and completed it in Oct. I took 16 hours though, but I burned out of training by the end of August so I took September really easy since I knew I would finish.

Be careful though. Follow a training plan, and I would seriously consider a coach and you can also say good bye to a regular life. You will HAVE to focus just on training if you want to finish and finish well.

And yes, you have to want it BAD. Sacrafices.

I started biking 1.5 years ago, and got serious about it 6 months ago. I have a similiar swimming background to you, but have a lot of distance running experience. I found the jump from distance running to biking pretty easy. I am planning on doing IMAZ in 4 weeks. I will let you know how I do, but my goal is 12 hours.

No, no biking. Not more than 50km running total since september. I'm spending 1h20min on the trainer on weekends right now, and am running say 4-5km
