Who is in? First time in this race for me. Can any one give me some insight on what to expect from the course?

We have a bunch of us in again this year. I've done it the past 2 years that it's been in Haines City and am so glad they moved the date this year. Hopefully it will be a bit cooler.

Swim is ok in a very shallow lake. Kind of in an M shape so a lot of turns.

Bike is hilly for someone from S Florida. First 20 or so are pretty flat. Only a couple of long hills and only 1 real steep one if I remember (just rode the course this past Sat). The last 7 mi are tough. So close to then end and it seems all uphill. It's not but seems it so get ready mentally.

Run is fine. Two really steep hills from about the half mile mark to the one mile mark. Have to do them 3 times . A little shade but very little. Otherwise, a decent amount of spectators make it interesting. Also when you run back close to start/finish area there are hundreds cheering you on. Plenty of aid stations.

So here's hoping we get a cool weekend. That heat has been brutal in the past

Hey Duane:

Thanks for the info. I'll probably get cooked during the race. I'm travelling from Washington State (it's still winter up here) and my heat training leading into the race will be zero. I guess I'll just go for survival mode! Good luck to you.

I here you about winter. I'm from Massachusetts and it's been one of the coldest winters I can remember. We still have 2 feet on the ground. I'm wondering how much outdoor training I'll be able to get in before the race. This isn't my A race so not too concerned about time but would like to have a decent showing. What do you think are the chances this will be a wetsuit swim? I'm looking forward to doing the race regardless.

I'd say wetsuit swim is not that good. But you know race directors. They'll take a temp at the coldest spot in the lake. Last couple of years it hasn't been wetsuit legal because it was held in May and was 90 degrees.
