First off, the US has a space command. In 2002 the USSPACECOM merged into an expanded USSTRATCOM. The mission is still there.

Recently there has been talk of Chinese might be developing technology to destroy our satellites. When our cell phones, GPS and sat-TV goes dead no one will be laughing! I think we need to proactively weaponized space! Start off with defensive weapons to defend our communication satellites and many the International Space Station.

Side note. Little know fact that I was the first person ever to sleep in the Space Station! Somewhere in the late 1990s I was a 3rd shift test conductor testing the US lab module. I was suited up in a 'bunny suit' (protective overalls) and was inside the US lab module. 3rd shift went from 11 pm to 8 am. I was about 3 am and I was in the module. Radio comms went like this:

TC1 (test conductor 1): TC1 to TC2
TC2 (me):
TCI: TC1 to TC2, do you copy?
TC2:
TCI: TC1 to TC2, are you awake in there?!


And so the urban legend was born that Rogillio was asleep inside the US Lab module. I used to deny I was asleep as I just barely dozed but decided it was actually pretty cool to be the 'first man to sleep in the International Space Station'.
