Subject: What type of pedals are these?
I just purchased the bike and have zero clue what type of cleats to buy or to look for.

Hard to tell but either Keo Look type pedals or maybe Shimano SPD-SPL road pedals.

Thank you! So, the shoes that I should look for should be SPD-SL correct? Since I'm with the understanding that they are compatible with both Look and the SPD-SPL?

The shoes are compatible in that they'll accept either spd or Look cleats. But the cleat/pedals aren't. If they're spd pedals, you'll want spd cleats. If they're Look, you'll want Look cleats.

Spd and look can appear quite similar. If you look up pictures of spd and look, you should be able to tell what you have by the locking mechanism. Take care with Look, they have two flavors.
