Subject: RE: Best Running Attire (Men) 2006 I know it may sound strange to some folks, but I'm voting for Target's house brand of athletic clothing, C9. I don't really believe that it's the best, but I DO believe that it is the best value-for-money available on the market. The run shorts are perfectly functional, the "technical" shirts work just as well as the more expensive brands, and the styles and selections are fine. Add all that to the fact that these clothing items are AT LEAST half of the cost of Nike or UnderArmor, and these pieces are clearly the best value, and the best choice available.
I believe pretty strongly that we should take whatever actions we can to make certain that health and fitness are not luxuries reserved to the privileged few. Sure, I'll pay for quality, and yes, I'll pay for craftsmanship. But at the end of the day, a shirt is a shirt, and when UnderArmor wants to charge me $55 for a long-sleeve shirt, that is clearly a price set to appeal to vanity, to set apart those who can afford it simply to mark them as being of a higher economic status. Under Armor is the conspicuous consumption bling-bling of the triathlon set.
