Subject: heart rate monitor
im new to triathlons but I have a bad heart rate monitor that I dont think it gives me the correct reading. What are some suggestions about brands or ones that work well for triathlons?
Thank you in advance

Polar makes some very dependable ones. Some folks like the gamin Forerunner and Edge units. I personnally like my polar.

Polar  - by far the best

Massive range so they will bound to have what you need

I like my Timex with 100 lap memory.  Relatively inexpensive (<$70) and the strap battery is easily replaceable.

My only complaint is that it doesn't always like it when I run directly under power lines.

I have had a Timex and currently have a Polar HR and a Garmin 405 HR

The one I use 95% of the time is the Garmin because is can give you feed back of HR, speed, cadence and a few other things second by second once you upload it to the CPU.

I use the polar when I run on the tread mill.

The polar is a little more responsive. IE. HR is every second I believe while the Garmin is about every 2. I could be wrong about this but.... They are both good units the Garmin just gives me data points to look at.

I had a Polar, which I loved until it died (the battery wore out and I made the mistake of getting the battery replaced by a local shop rather than sending it in - I didn't want to wait.......)

Any way, I'm just about to replace it and debating between a garmin and a Polar

I like the fact that the Garmin gives you the data points and that you can upload it into your training log - but I think it may be overkill for me

not sure what to do

this seems like a good thread to jump into
