Subject: bike components

Got a question for anyone who will answer. I have a 2006 Quintana Roo Kilo (the yellow one) it has a FSA gossamer crank, a shimano 105 front derailer and a ultegra rear derailer. Where should I start the upgrades or are the components ok. I have no clue about bike components. I use the bike in both the buffalo springs 70.3 and the longhorn 70.3 but I am training for the louisville ironman and want to upgrades somethings. I know my wheels need to be upgraded but wanted to start on somethings a little cheaper first. Thanks for any help you can give.

Firstly, welcome to BT!

IIWY: Leave well enough alone with the drivetrain. Those are fine components assuming they work as they are designed to and aren't worn out. Perhaps the rear derailleur, but that would only be true if the pulleys are worn, the cage or body are bent or the spring doesn't respond.

Save your money. Think about possibly wheels or a coach. The drivetrain isn't holding your splits down.

I agree! The few grams you'll save can easily be overcome by good training.

Blackwell is on shaky ground financially, Zipp is overpriced and everyone could use a little HED.

The only drivetrain upgrades I'd even consider are an Avid Rollamajig (assuming you can find one) and aluminum sealed-bearing pulleys for the RD.

Those components are fine.

The upgrade that you will notice the most would be a nice set of wheels. There are great deals out there on used race wheels especially now.

I had the BR100's and all I have to say is ehh.
I have Zipp 404's and 303' and they are both really nice.
I've heard nothing but good things about Hed.
