Here is my new mountain bike. It’s a 2008 Specialized Stumpjumper HT. Sorry that it’s a little dirty in the pictures; I had to take it out and make sure that it worked correctly. I upgraded the pedals to crank brother’s egg beaters and added the carbon bar ends to it. Other than that it is stock. It will be named later.

Nice bike. Don't apologize for it being dirty. It's wrong to take pictures of a clean mountain bike.

I just built a new bike. I love riding my hardtail single speed, but my back and shoulders are starting to complain on rides over 3 hours or so.

The new bike, 6inch travel front and rear BMC Superstroke. I only got it finished last Friday at about midnight. Took it to the local ski hill for the last day of lift served downhilling this year. My hardtail is pretty burly, but since I sold my DH bike last spring I've been really missing it. This thing fills the void and I can justify owning it in Wisconsin.

I have a setback Thompson seat post on the way, the cockpit is a little short at the moment.

Will that seat post really make a big difference? I got my new MTB built last week and I think the stem is too short but I like the handling of the shorter stem. I was thinking about changing it by 20mm.

OP, nice bike. Didn't want to steal any thunder and post a pic of my new baby. (but would love to, I LUV it )

I'm not the OP, but the more MTB Porn the better!

As far as the setback seat post goes. It depends on what you have now. Many seat posts have the clamp positioned slightly behind the seatpost. Thompson does not, their seatposts have the clamping mechanism directly over the post. So going from another brand post already moved back, to a setback Thompson will not get you anything. Going from a straight Thomspon to a setback Thompson moves the seat back 16mm. Only 4mm shy of the stem swap you were thinking of doing.

On my mountain bike I prefer slack seat tube and head tube angles and a short stem. My new bike has a fairly steep seat tube angel and a short cockpit so the setback posts addresses both issues for me. And I don't want to go any longer then the 90mm stem on there now.

Ah-ha, gotcha. I was thinking of the Thomson seatpost that has the bend in it. I have a 70mm stem that I ordered because I was unsure how the frame would fit so I think I could go to 90mm.

Here it is:

Nice Bike!

The Thompson would move the seat back in relation to your current seat post as well.
Here is an example of a seatpost with the clamp moved back.

It's more the older style single bolt seat posts that have this design. Most of the newer two bolt seatposts that have a design similar to your seatposts and the Thompsons will have the clamp directly over the post.
