Subject: Skin Problems

It started just really dry skin after swims, but it's gotten worse over time and now it's not just itchy but painful.  My face, arms and legs are the  problem areas.  I also can not get that chlorine smell to go away.  I've tried many types of lotions and soaps with no luck.

Does anyone have something better or ran into these issues?

Does Tri-swim lotion or Dermaswim port work?

Looking for something for my face as well since it's so dry it flakes.

thanks,

 DK

Not this problem exactly but my wife has had dry skin as well as some skin cancer removed. Her dermatologist recommended either Cetaphil or Cerave as 2 of the best lotions. The wife has concurred that these have been the best she has tried so far. They both can be found at any regular drug store (CVS, Walgreens, etc.) and possibly Walmart or Target.

Now for getting rid of the chlorine smell, I think that is impossible.

If you have access to a steamroom where you swim, I've found rinsing off in the shower and then spending 10-15 minutes in the steamroom helps get some of the chlorine smell out.

My skin does this. If I spend over an hour swimming laps it's very itchy.

What I do is after I get out, I immediately try to shower with soap and water. I have the TriSwim stuff and it works somewhat. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done. You will still smell like chlorine though.

Now, I'm guessing you are a guy... and as a guy who is swimming, to skip the dry skin you will need to make some changes to help your skin out.

1) Don't use a bar soap. Lever 2000 (or something manly like that) will be more harsh on your skin than a liquid soap you use on a sponge.

2) Use a body scrub to get all the dry flaky skin off. I have personally fallen in love with sugar scrubs. You can get those at Wal-Mart, Target, Bath and Body works, etc.

3) Use a face scrub for the dead skin on your face after swimming. This can be used in the shower. There are TONS of them out there. Just gotta look and see which ones fits your needs.

4) Use a really good lotion once you are out of the shower. One was already mentioned here, and it's a really good one. I use Curel myself. Here's what you do. Keep the door shut to the bathroom so it's still steamy as you are drying off. Dry off and then put the lotion all over your body. That way you put it on when your body is still a little bit moist.

IF you really want to go the extra mile, you can also put on baby oil in the shower, right after you turn the water off, but you are still wet. Then when you dry off the extra residue from the baby oil is removed, but you are still silky soft. This is really great if you shave your legs. I know for me, it's the only thing I can put on my legs after shaving them. Then again since I have done it for years, maybe they are just not sensitive to it anymore?

BTW- Yes, I do all of the above on a regular basis! And I have silky smooth skin.

That is great information thank you.  I will try the above and get rid of the bar soap.  Can you use the same lotion on your body as your face?

Not a good idea. Usually body lotion will clog the pours in your face. I would suggest getting a face lotion for your face.
