Subject: Training Question
I am getting ready to go on vacation and will not have access to a pool or any water.  However, I will be taking my bike and running shoes.  My question is what should I do about those days I was supposed to swim, should i replace them with either biking or running and just alter my training schedule for that week then resume my normal training when I get back?  Any advice would help.  Thanks in advance.

That's what I do when I travel, try to keep the volume around the same and shift around the activities to what's available. You should be fine for a week.

keep to the plan for running, do not increase volume as running is more demanding on the body and a jump in volume can result in injury,
Bike as much as you can,

Just my suggestion

would have to agree with this. Also throw in some core work/yoga if you are able to instead of a swim as that will also go a long way in helping you (assuming you already do some adding in a bit more will help)

it depends on your swimming background.

if you are a MOP swimmer and have solid technique ingrained into your neuromuscular "system" then a week out of the water is no big deal.

However, even if you're new to swimming, there's not much you can do anyway unless you can find a pool through a resource like this: http://www.swimmersguide.com

otherwise, keep the rest of your schedule exactly the same.

Steve, That's a great resource.  Thanks for the tip.  I just checked-out Denver and Bismarck.  I didn't realize I had so many options.  I spend so much time on the road and needed to find a pool while I'm out.
