Subject: Adding Riding Distance
I am considering a 50 mile ride today. Here is my situation:

My furthest ride so far has been 35 miles.

I ride about 60 miles per week average.

I just took a week off completely to let my body rest.

Do you think it will be too much of a shock to ride 50 miles after a break?

As long as you don't push too hard, you should be okay. If your riding has been consistent, and especially with the rest, you should be fine.

Nope, just don't try to set any land speed records, bring some fuel and hydration, and you'll be fine.

Don't be surprised if you're saddle sore tomorrow, though.

Not at all.   A week off can do your body wonders.

Let me ask one thing, after your 35 mile rides are you dead tired or do you think you could do more?  If you answer the first, then the extra 15 miles might be too much.   Otherwise go for it!

You will be fine.  As everyone else said take it slow.  I just rode a century and prior to that my longest ride was 61 miles.  You can do it.

I did it. Averaged 18 mph. It wasn't too bad except it is 86 degrees and humid.
