Subject: Bike Position
I have now had my new bike for about 3 weeks and ride about 3 times per week.  I was pro fitted at my lbs but I didn't know how a correct position was supposed to feel like.  Now when I ride, I have to fight to keep my head up high enough to see the road ahead of me.  Also, the back of my neck/shoulders are giving me issues.  Should I go back in for another fitting now that I have some miles on my bike or should I attempt to adjust the bike myself.   I have even thought that maybe I just need to get used to it a bit longer.

Any suggestions?

Unless you feel like something is injuring you, I would give it more time.  I went through the same thing when I went from a very slack road bike to my tri-bike and it took a while to adjust.  And don't mess with the fit yourself unless you want to pay for another one

I would give it some more time. maybe call the LBS and let them know the situation. I had a similar. I went back a couple months later and they took a quick look at the fit and made some minor tweaks and did it for free.

x2. One of the (many, many) reasons to support your LOCAL bike shop - they'll almost certainly tweak it for you for free. Give 'em a call.

Did the fitter ask you about your cycling experience, your goals, any known problems, etc? If not, they may just have put you in a very aggressive "racers" position... I would almost take for granted that they will do a follow-up fitting (or adjustment, call it what you want) for free. Any good fitter should do that. I say go back to the fitter and discuss your discomforts with him/her.

From your comment about fighting to keep your head up, I am going to assume you have a tri bike.  I had the same problems with my neck for a while when I bought my tri bike, but they went away after time in the saddle.  It probably took me about 200 miles or so of riding.  One thing that helped me through this period (and I still do this before a long ride) is taking about three aspirin before I started my ride.  Makes all of the little aches and pains that seem to present themselves a little more tolerable.

Make sure you aren't letting your head and neck 'fall down' between your shoulders making your shoulder blades come closer together.  I was doing this and it was giving me a sharp, stabbing pain between my shoulder blades after about 20 miles.  I also started doing some lower back exercises in a Roman Chair and I think that helped a lot as well.

FWIW,
Greg
