Subject: training on a fixed gear bike

Over the past 2 weeks I have been working with my LBS trying to dial in the fit on my new Felt AR4. During my initial fit I needed to order an offset seat post which took 4 days to get in. It came in last Fri., and during the set up the fitter stripped the seat post clamp so now that’s on order. It was shipped over night and that was 4 days ago. Anyway I am freaking out because I have no bike and my “A” race Nation’s Oly in DC is only 3 weeks away.

Over the past few days I have been riding on my track/fixed gear bike and tonight I road a 4 loop course just over 10 miles with an avg. speed of 17.5. So my question is should I ask the LBS for a loaner bike to train on or just stick it out on my fixie? Do any of you guy/gals train on fixed gear bikes, and are there any advantages or disadvantages to doing so?

Check out my fixed gear in my album under JSD, it my 1st build.........

A good friend of mine trains almost exclusively on a fixed gear bike. He also places in the top 5 at every local race, and has even won quite a few.

I don't know if it's a good idea or not, but it seems to work for him.

ive got a road bike and a fixed gear, when the road bike needs repair i ride the fixed.  usually i am a bit slower on the fixed gear, but ive heard its good for you.  if i were you id continue to ride the fixie - and maybe find out why if something was shipped overnight 4 days ago it hasnt arrived yet.
