Subject: Zoning out during workouts
I've noticed that I've recently started zoning out (in a major way) during my workouts, especially on the run.

It almost feels like my mind separates from my body, in a way.

A few weeks ago, I was on a 6 mile run and had to look at the clock to make sure I was finished. Afterwards, I felt like I hadn't even run! This past weekend, I ran my longest training run ever and barely remember it!

This has never happened to me in the past, even during long ruck marches while in the Army...it's just started happening in the past few weeks...

Is this the body's way of handling grueling/taxing conditions? Is training just getting longer and easier? Maybe I'm not mixing it up enough?

Anyways, would like to know what you ppl think, or if you experience these Zone Outs...

Interesting. I'd like to know how to attain this state. I find that I am usually hyper-aware during workouts.... unless you count this morning when I almost ran into the back of a parked van while messing with my Ipod.

Do you run the same route everytime?  This happens to me off and on during my runs, I tend to use the same route and I am beginning to think my mind wonders do to shear boredom of the same thing everyday.  I know what you mean though, sometimes I will catch myself doing it and say out loud as I am runnng, " stay focused Jason"  My wife thinks I am crazy, glad that is happens to others besides me.

yep, and then they end up being some of my best workouts.
i need to get in a solid warm up on the run to get the jitters out, and then i just go, zone out. normally on longer trail runs.

I have the opposite problem. When I zone out my pace slips, I think it is my minds way of tricking me to slow down.

I do this on runs and swims only. The bike I pick up every aspect usually. But runs and swims I get home and wonder where the last 1-2 hours went.

happens to me on runs.  i guess that is what is called the runners high.

it is usually on my 1 hr + runs.  i am not necessary pushing it very hard just enjoying the run.  never on the swim, breathing, stroke i am way too focused same on the bike.
