Subject: RE: And now for something completely different...If you live in Northern Virginia, Southern PA, MD, or parts of NC, you probably have trenchlines in your woods behind your house. When I was at The Basic School, some historian took our Company around to all of the hidden trenches in the Alexandria, Petersburg, Northern VA area. Because it was on a Saturday morning, some people were waking-up to a company of Marines standing in their back yards milling-about smartly. The historian asked our CO if he could have us draw the positions out and identify the purpose of them. There were some really cool military concepts in-play. (reverse defilade, overwatch, supplemental positions, using Cannons like we use machine guns). We were pretty respectful of the stuff on the grounds, but if some scavengers found that site, they'd have a goldmine of stuff. Sad thing is that several of those have now been destroyed by housing. Oh well... |
