Subject: IM Taper

I'm trying to plan out the rest of my IM training plan (I'm doing Lou) and I'm curious what most peoples long ride and runs are during taper. Anyone want to share their plan/thoughts?

I was looking at a calendar yesterday....we have 5 more weekends.  So I'll go long for 3 of them and then maybe drop back to 50 - 75 miles for the 4th weekend and then maybe do a sprint tri here the weekend before (20 mile bike). 

I'll follow a similar plan for my long run - 3 more very long and then drop back to 8 or 10 miles and then back to a token run.

3 weeks out - (sat) sprint tri and (sun) a 1:3:1 brick (1:00 open water swim, 3:00 bike and 1:00 run),

2 weeks out - nothing more than 1:00 swims, 2:00 bikes, 1:00 runs.

Race week - short and sweet, just to keep the legs fresh

 Mine is going very similar to this except for the sprint tri.  I'm looking at 3 more long rides and 3 more long runs and then start to back down.

For IMLP I did three week bike/run taper and 1 week swim taper as I needed more longer swims.

First week was like a rest week with a 25 mile bike/5 mile run brick as longest s/b; and a full IM distance swim

Second week was adjusted downward as I was still pretty tired..long run 8 miles originally 12, long brick was 40 miles/5 mile run cut down to 3. I did another IM distance ows this week.

Last week I did 6 mile run Monday and a 30 mile ride next day.

Each run I felt better...didn't feel really normal running until race week.

Are you going to do this Sprint the week end before the IM? I am thinking the same but I am worried about messing up everything for such a small race.

Not my form but maybe crashing with the bike or some stupid injury...

No.   I really wanted to do this race too becuase it's a great race (I've done it 6 times over the years) but I never could convince myself that it would not have a negative impact on my IM.  I've got too much time and money invested in the IM and I don't want to mess it up...although I'm not sure how.  I'm not worried about wrecking or injury....more concerned with pushing too hard and then not being fully rested next weekend.  Probably irrational.
