Comments:

Started in other town, ran to the strip. The wind there really sucks. Over all I thought it was a good run. Well supported. (drink cups too big). Don't think I'll ever do this race again though.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Long distance training and speed training.

Event comments:

This is a great course in my opinion. I like the run straight into town, it makes for a good goal. Not much to see on the run though and nobody was allowed to cheer for the first 17mi. :( I can't say enough how much the wind sucked!! It was very debilitating to have a strong head wind pretty much the entire way. (The last 3 mi. though was a tail wind, which was very nice!).

I've heard the wind can be nasty at this marathon. Was that your experience? :-)

The majority of the course was down hill, but you would never know it because of the wind. It would just keep blowing then there would be gusts on top of that. I was really unprepared for it! Other than the wind I really enjoyed this run. Beautiful weather, great scenery, and great people! The harder you work for something the better it is right? I had a blast. :-)

Great job in the race! Just curious, but why weren't spectators allowed to cheer for the first 17 mi?

Thank you very much. So the best way I can explain the reason for no spectators is this: To get to the starting line for the marathon you take the freeway out of town; A two lane road runs parallel to the freeway. Since the marathon takes up the two lane road the only way people could have stopped and cheered would have been to pull over on the freeway. Some people tried it, but the police were on them in minutes, telling them to move on. (The road was far enough away from the freeway that it wasn't like we were running on the freeway. )
