What is the status of MAP?  I'm not even sure if it is open now that we're past Labor Day.  If open, how is it for OWS practice?

I dont know water status, but it is never totally closed. Once the park officially "closes", you actually can park at the boat ramp for free and walk down to the water

My husband and I were there on Sunday around 8am to practice.  It is open and there were four or five others out there as well.  we are planning to go again this Sunday, weather permitting

It is not.  There are buoys to mark the swim area and someone there estimated that shore to farthest buoy and back was about 500 yds.

Attached is a map from pre-drought YMMV

You rock Kevin!  Thank you!  So do I bike on Saturday or do I swim at the park.  I'm not sure I have time for both.  I can be at MAP at 2 or 3 pm for a one hour swim on Saturday, 9/13.  Anyone want to join me?

Just got back from MAP.  The park was closed (so parking was free)!  I parked at the boat ramp and walked over to the swim area.  I ended up swimming from one point of the cove to the other and back again.  Time wise, I'm guessing it was just shy of 400 yards each way (800 total).  You've got to be careful to "hug" the buoys.  There's a real shallow area towards the point closest to the boat launch.  I had to swim around it into deeper water.  All in all the water felt cooling, but not cold.  Had a great swim.  Would like to do it again at the end of the month.  Maybe 9/27.
