Run
Comments: Good solid run as far as I am concerned. The time is better than I had hoped for so no complaints there. The guy who passed me pushing his kid in a jogging stroller didn't exactly make my day. What would you do differently?: Start out slower. The first 5K took 22 minutes which would have been fine had I been running a 10 - as it was by the time I got to 10 the legs were starting to feel it. Add to that the little niggling problem I thought of with my left shoe turned out to really start to bother me at 10K. I figured it for a blister but the toe was a bloody mess when I took it out of my shoe at the end of the race. So next time - really well broken in shoes. Third thing - more gels. They really work. Took on at 5K, another at 11K, could have used another at 16K especially when the last K of the race is the biggest hill on the course. Post race
Warm down: Jogged for an extra K, took of my shoe and did some first aid. Went home and went to sleep for 2 hours. What limited your ability to perform faster: The shoes - definitely slowed me down. The problem with the toe was very painful during the run. I started out too quick and did not bring enough gels. Should have had a bigger bottle of water. Can't drink from a cup while I am running don't know how anyone can. Have to focus on doing MY run not pacing myself against others. Event comments: The club that ran this put out major food for post race. Everything you could want from hot soup to fresh fruit, cheese, pizza, cookies etcetera. The only thing missing was no first aid kit at all. My wife drove to a near by convenience store to pick up band-aids for my toe. Lesson #3 bring your own first aid stuff. Ate a banana and some yogurt. And waited. When I put my shoes on (they are relatively new) I thought that maybe there was something wrong with the way the two smallest toes on my left foot felt when I walked. I decided to ignore it - Lesson #2 don't ignore things like that. (Lesson #1 was bring safety pins - learned that last race)
No warm up really. Chatted with a few people.
