Subject: Visiting Vancouver
Good Afternoon All,
My wife and I are visiting Vancouver this next week and we are looking for some tips or ideas for activities in Vancouver.  Also, some good resturants (sushi especially) would be nice.

Any races in Vancouver this next Sun, the 19th?

Thanks,
Chris

Where abouts are you staying?? And do you have a vehicle or will you be taking public transit??

At very minimum Grouse Mountain is a must.. If you make dinner reservations, the gondola ride up is free.. The view is amazing once the sun goes down.

visit Granville Island; while there, go to "ecomarine" (i think it's called) and rent out a kayak, go for a paddle in  false creek or around to english bay, good way to see the city. loads of places to run/enjoy the scenery esp stanley park seawall.

alternatively you can hire bikes at a place north end of denman street and cycle around stanley park and alongside the shoreline/false creek.

I don't live downtown but vancouver in general has good sushi though make sure you ask for the wild salmon, occasionally you come across some that use the farmed salmon in their rolls.

catch a ferry from tsawassen across to victoria (about 1.5hrs ea way), visit the bouchart gardens (not cheap but beautiful); if you have your bikes you could also catch a ferry to one of the many smaller islands and cycle around (galiano, main, pender islands)....

grouse mountain a great idea, definitely get to the top of one of the north shore peaks (mt seymour has a good hike 5hrs rtn) as the weather is beautiful. be great to watch the sun set from the grouse restaurant, never done it but would love to one day!

enjoy your visit

Thank you all for the update.

I forgot to mention that we are staying at the Westin downtown  for 4 nights and then heading to Victoria Island for 2 nights before coming back to Dallas.

I definitely want to see Stanley Park and we will check out Grouse Mountain.

I'm sure my wife would kill me if I entered into a road race on our vacation, but I thought I would ask.  Not looking for a tri, maybe just a 10k.

Go for a swim at Kitsilano Beach Pool.  137m long and when you stop to rest you have a view of the ocean & mountains.  Ocean is about 20 meters from where you are swimming.  Very cool and Vancouver at its finest.  Get out of the pool, hit the starbucks across the street and go for a stroll along the beach.   http://vancouver.ca/Parks/rec/pools/index.htm

If you're staying downtown at the Westin Bayshore, Stanley park is just around the corner from you. You can walk the park or take a tour of it. The Vancouver Aquarium and they have some cool exhibits.

To get to Grouse mountain by you can walk to the Waterfront station (buy a day pass) and catch the Seabus, which is a great 15 minute passenger ferry ride across Burrard Inlet. Once across you catch the 236 Grouse Mountain bus. On the way to the mountian there is the Capilano Suspension Bridge.

There is lots to look at downtown, and if you walk south on Denman St it will take you right to English Bay Beach.. great people watching, etc..

Capilano Bridge is the biggest tourist trap in Vancouver. Go to Lynn Valley Canyon instead and explore that area.
