Subject: RE: MTB Training vs. Road Bike TrainingThe biggest problem with training on mtb trails is that the trail determines your effort, not you. It's very hard to keep a consistent HR and/or power output when you're going up and down steep hills and blazing twisty singletrack. Mountain biking can also beat you up a lot more than road riding if the trails are especially challenging.
I'm an avid mountain biker and do a considerable amount of my riding time on dirt. I've always found 'training' much easier to do on the road, though.
So mountain biking is definitely beneficial to your fitness, but if your goal is to be faster on the bike leg of a tri, you need to train often in circumstances that mimic the race. |
