You might look at my other post.  My forerunner is developing a few issues and if the cost to keep it going is under say ....$50 I will likely keep it arround for a spare, but I am going to upgrade to the 310XT pretty soon.

The specs say it is swim proof (I have always worn my 305 on the swim anyway) and that it has a 20 hour battery life (i assume that is per charge not total.... Wink) and that it is not as bulky

Full retail is only $379 so I am sure with a little shopping arround it could be had for less and that is not such a salty price to begin with compared to say..... launching the space shuttle for example (grin)

Go to Garmin's website and check it out

Mike any issues ever with the 305 on your swims? did you wear it while you swim trained or only during the race? I want to get one but I am a lil gun shy by the fact I can't swim with it.

if you're not comfortable with wearing it on your wrist during your swim by a cap for your head and wear it underneath that.

Fire that is a great idea, although I would be ok wearing it on my wrist if it is ok to do that. I know they say not in more than a meter of water for 30min.

I have mostly only worn my 305 in races - 9 total so far.  But I have worn it training a couple of times with no immediate issues.   I recently used it on my bike and may have damaged it by not having the correct adapter, and just strapping it over the edge mount.  So sometimes it is difficult to get turned on.

But other than that no issues in 2 seasons
