Subject: FIRST TRI is this weekend-- what should I be reading?
The title says it.  My first tri is this Sunday.  It's a sprint distance.  Yesterday, I stopped training to begin resting up for it.

So....

advice on transitions?

how to optimize energy for race day?

what not to forget on race day?

I'm sure these are all in an article somewhere, but I have trouble navigating this site's article listings.  Can someone help me out with advice or links to articles?

Thanks.

Transition advice....practice.  I learned from practicing i like to bike with bare feet and put socks on in T2.  Prior to practicing transition (that is, practicing it soaking wet like you will be), i planned on putting socks on in T1.

Optimize energy....get good sleep and eat how you normally would.  I start making sure I'm hydrated a few days out.

Don't forget...make yourself a list.  goggles, bike shoes, helmet, race belt, socks, sneakers.  The rest you can live without if you have to.  Oh yeah, & toilet paper.....portopotties can be out of TP if it's a big race.
Good luck and just have fun with it!  That's why most of us do this!

Great idea on the list...  Have everything pretty much ready to go early sat so you can relax as much as possible

Get some good rest tonight and friday... since saturday night you might be too nervous/excited to sleep well,

as for reading......  you can never go wrong with some Calvin and Hobbs

Glad you asked the question, those articles answered some of my race day and prep questions too (my first one this weekend too).  Good luck to you and have fun.

Good advice except the socks part. No socks for a sprint. Unless you''re a Penn State Knitting Kitten. Might as well run in fuzzy slippers too.Tongue out

Practicing transition tomorrow might help you burn some nervous energy. Get your stuff ready, and relax tomorrow evening with a fun movie or something similar. Forget Schindler's List and go for something along the lines of Casino Royale or Hoosiers if you need some inspiration.  And have a blast. Talk to some other athletes while you're setting up and just enjoy yourself.

Good luck!
