If someone has already then they are crazy and not that smart..........in my opinion.  Or they have all the right gear to do it safely.

First OWS EVER will be Okotoks on July 6th.

One of my buddies is doing Alcatraz. He's not sure how to train for it yet. He lives in Arbour lake in Calgary here. he has debated trying to jump in there for a bit.

Burrrr............I have heard about that Alcatraz race.  There is a reason they say no one ever escaped.  I had a vague thought about doing an OWS in Nelson August long but husband told me that the river there can be pretty chilly as it is glacier feed.....thus Okotoks.  Hoping the shallow man made lake thing will help with the temperature.  I live in Sundance so will luckily be able to get out but not before late June for me!

Ihave heard Alcatraz can we be pretty wicked with water temps and current. Tell him to train in the bow river, swim up stream with the fish...Smile

I have thought of doing Nelson as well. I am doing Invermere middle of july then holidays after in Penticton, so that is out for me. Apparently it is $30 entry this year...i think. 30th year anniversary.

FWIW, Inveremere is a great race. Nice small town feel. I did it a couple years ago. TOUGH run though!

Yeah, that was my first ever Oly last year(second overallSmile) Had some major cramping in the quads but managed to drag my butt across the line. I want a redo to see if I have done anything right in the past year.
