Overall Rank = 131/528
Age Group = 20-24

Pre-race routine:

Did some yoga stretching and meditation. It was too cold to get in a warmup swim. 48 F when I left the house this morning. Ate IHOP for breakfast, shortstack with ham.
Swim
  • 07m 40s
  • 400 meters
  • 01m 55s / 100 meters
Comments:

My swim felt faster than my time says, but I'm not going to argue. It felt good. I was only passed once but repassed her at the start of the bike.
And I passed 2 guys.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on my flipturns and the flip turns under the lane lines. That will make a huge difference in time.
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

I lolligagged during transition. It was too freakin cold not too. Thank god for those rowing tops Ive got kept me decently warm on the bike.
Bike
  • 55m 3s
  • 18.6 miles
  • 20.27 mile/hr
Comments:

My legs were frozen and didn't warmup until halfway into the ride. Riding you bike when your muscles are frozen seems to take a lot more energy than seems prudent. I am happy with my overall ride though. I couldn't have gone any faster.

It was funny this girl was sitting in the grass by the side of the road, no one else was around and I am off in my own world and don't even notice her until she yells at me "Hey, aren't you supposed to be up their with those guys," refering to the guys a ways ahead of me I started laughing and yelled back at her "I'm trying." As stupid as that sounds it really made my ride.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know, leg warmers. Not have done such a hard workout on Saturday.
Transition 2
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

Again lolligagging. I didn't have the umph in me today, but it doesn't seem to have hurt me. This T2 is still faster than two weeks ago. Granted my bike was placed spectacularly. Right shoe came untied and I left it that way.
What would you do differently?:

Have gel out to take w/ on run instead of having to dig for it. Not have numb legs.
Run
  • 23m 25s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

I am not sure how the run got done so fast. My legs were numb for the first two miles. I think my sciatic nerve or something, but from the knees down. I kept thinking just don't roll your ankle, because I knew I wouldn't have really been able to feel it and would have continued to injure it. As I warmed up the feeling started to come back, but so did the feeling of lactic acid. I guess the keep your legs moving thoughts work for me and not the go fast. What does fast really mean anyway.
What would you do differently?:

I just need to spend more time running and more bricks. I wasn't prepared for cold weather.
Post race
Warm down:

Sitting and stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Saturday's workout.

Event comments:

I enjoyed the race and a band was playing during the post race activities. I wish I could have stayed for the Awards, but my legs hurt too bad and I needed to go home. My dad got it for me though.

I was 13/169 women overall. I feel like I am making progress. I also feel like I did the best race I could have today. There was no sprint to the finish, but I left it all on the line anyway. I

Hey, great race! It looks like you performed really well, and I know how cold it was, since I was over in Fort Worth doing the Benbrook sprint tri. It was difficult to tie my shoes for the run since it was so cold. I'm guessing you must be from Texas, since you sounded like me dealing with the cold! Anyway, great race; keep up the training!

I got you in T2! ...I build on small victories

Pretty similar race for me. Legs cold getting on bike...thought they'd wear out a lot sooner cause it did seem like it used more energy to bike with cold legs. Thanks to a wonderful 2+hour delay at the start I faced a good head wind into all of the hills heading out, could wait for the turn around. Topped 37 mph coming back with the wind on a hill. Had a similar run to you. Don't know how it was done so fast. 1:26 pre mile faster than two weeks ago. I did a 5 mile run a week ago at that pace...looks like the running strength is finally returning to my legs!!!

This race definitely pumped me up for an Oly...if only I can do something about that job.

Good Work!...I'll be closer on your tails next time!

oh yeah...and i'd argue with the swim times...I'm the same as you...mine felt much better than the actual time, if only I had remembered to start my watch!

...I guess it felt as good as it could given 2 hours of muscle shivering is not exactly the best warmup!

the timing mat for the swim was outside and around the corner, so that added time. Mine seemed slow too.

Ok that makes me feel better. I knew something was wrong. Plus I left a shirt outside the pool door and I stopped to grab it and begin to put it on when I was running. Oh the precious seconds. Definitely worth it. I would have died on the bike w/o another layer.

Texas is getting colder every year. I'm sitting here remembering 80+ days of 100 degree temps. Lost forever. Global warming really means that we are going to replace our warm sunny days w/ luke warm wet days. I guess the farmers are happy.

Nice race. I agree it was cold but being a Clydesdale helped. More warmth. I finished not too far behind you and had trouble in T1 my hands were freezing and I couldn't get my socks on.

Are you doing the City of Grapevine tri (real short) going to use it as a brick. It is 6/4 and the Metroplex Sprint is June 12th. This one is really good and run well!

I'm doing a half at the end of June in Lubbock, so I decided to not do any other races this month. I'm doing Ironhead July 17 and possibly the Small Texan the 31st in Boerne. I'm not 100% sure about that one. The hills are killer. Of course the last time I did it was on my mountain bike.

Thanks for the support.
