What type of sunglasses do you recommend that will accommodate a prescription w/astigmatism and where should I look for them?  This is my first season of triathlon and I am currently using my regular sunglasses - certainly not ideal.  I expect that I will have to spend some $$ to get the right thing considering that I need prescription and I know that a lot of the "wrap around" types won't work w/astigmatism, so I need to do some research.  Any advice/experience that you can share is greatly appreciated!

I used rx Oakley sunglasses for a long time until I finally got LASIK last december. They were very expensive but they worked excellent.

Check out www.oakley.com

I'm fairly sure they will do rx lenses in most of their sunglasses. I had them in my Oakley "Juliet" model sunglasses.

You may have to e-mail them and inquire more as their website has little information on the prescription sunglasses. You can also go to an Oakley authorized dealer near you and they should be able to help out.

Good luck!

Adidas use a prescription lens inserted behind the standard lens - meaning that you can go for most styles.

I have also seen others on the forums here suggest Rudy project as well.

My LBS had some frames from BBB that were cycling specific (came with 3 lens tints) and had the insert lens for the prescription and were about $100 (AUD) and you then took the insert lens to your optometrist for them to do their thing.

My personal preference was to avoid an oakley style set up where the lens has the script in it already as my lens scripts tend to change every 12-18 months (and I hope the glasses would last longer than that Smile).

I recently found this site, I haven't tried them yet though.

Not sure what your prescription is, but most rx sunglasses were too low strength for me (Oakley goes up to -/+2.75 if I recall).  My eye dr's lab couldn't make mine either.  So I went to heavyglare.com because their motto was "If we can't make it, nobody can".  Give them a try if your other options don't work.  I think I paid $275 for my Bolle pair of wraparounds.

I have worn Oakley's for more than 20 years. I love them (currently have 3 pairs), but I don't have perscription lenses. My wife made the switch to Oakleys about 6 years ago and loves them. She gets all her perscriptions now done by them. She has a pretty extreme RX and has found that Oakley's lab (definitely let them make them) has done a better job than anyone she has ever used. They may cost a little more, but she now swears by their quality. She even has her everyday glasses done by them.

For price, Nashbar sells two pairs of Bolle's for about $55 that you can add $86 prescription insert. (+ I had a 20% discount code).

My problem is that I ordered almost two months ago, they asked me to fax my prescription twice, and they have not responded to my last inquiry... but I will let you know how I like them if/when I get them.

UPDATE - The insert is showing as "not currently available".  I need to get on the phone with customer service.

Update - Customer Service is telling me everything "should" be ok, but they cannot confirm. They need to call me back.

Not really a fan of Nashbar Prescription service right now.
