New user 6 |  Subject: Lobsters & Bagpipes...what have you seen?Today, I apparently took a wrong turn and ended up running through bizzaro world (right in the middle of Arlington, VA). Enjoying the lush, green scenery just a quarter mile into my run, and lo and behold a LOBSTER! Right there, sharing the path, trucking along to wherever it is lobsters go on Sunday mornings (crustacean church?). I did a double take to make sure the heat hadn't gone to my head, and then kept on running, cause quite frankly the lobster kinda freaked me out. Another mile down the road, I turn the corner and was greeted to the sound of BAGPIPES! A young man (not wearing a kilt), had a little chair and a red baseball cap and of course, his bagpipes. He was practicing right there under a tree on the side of the highway happy as a lobster on Sunday morn! What bizarre things have you all seen out on the training road?? I passed a guy in full-on time trial gear (not just a one piece, I'm talking the real deal) and aero helmet riding one of those fold up bikes. He had a 2 foot long beard as well. Where were you running in Arlington? I run there all the time and have yet to see any crustaceans. |

It was an offering from the green herons who nest above the car, but it took me awhile to sort that out since I didn't actually notice it until I was away from home. I've also seen a small brown crab crawling up the brickwork of my house like a spider. Clearly, he took a wrong turn at Albuquerque and wound up about eye-level clinging to the side of the house. Not as bizarre as the lobsters and bagpipes, but a bit odd nevertheless.  And, I didn't see them while training...but I mostly train around my neighbourhood and would love to see anything interesting at all.Edited by madeye 2005-07-11 8:32 AM |
