I am watching the Simpsons right now. Homer is holding a pox party so that the neighborhood kids can get infect by chicken pox carried by Maggie. Umm.. do parents really hold pox parties?

yup. i had my girls vaccinated, but i know many parents who don't, or limit vaccinations to certain things. for those who don't choose to get the pox vaccine, they will often have a party once someone's child actually gets infected. just got an email from a friend last week about one!

when thekids were little, my sister in law was on the lookout for anyone who had it so they'd get it before they were school age and not disrupt her work schedule.

My son got it when he was 2, the whole daycare did.  Other son was born in time for the vaccine.  I got it too, I remember it was NOT FUN at all!!  My mom had just given birth to my baby sister, so the two of them were sequestered at nana's house for a couple weeks.

Come to think about it, I don't even know if I have gotten chicken pox when I was young. My mom couldn't remember. May be I should look up craigslist for neighborhood pox poarties.

You don't want to get that as an adult.

My brother got it when he was 2.  Passed it to me... and I was kicked out from the kindergarten's door for 2 weeks.  I still have that little scar on my nose, left over from my stratching of the pox.  Then I passed it on to my Dad.  Man, he'd never been so sick.  Mom was scared.  High fever and stuff for 2 whole weeks.
