You're thinking of the "Project: ALF" movie that was done in the mid-90's as a "sequal" to the final episode.

And yes....it was AWESOME...

I had the Alf trading cards AND the video game for the Apple II-GS.

the only thing I remember about our little friend is he continuously wanted to eat the cats but I don't think he ever got toooo - but I was 5 so I might not remember exactly.
