One of my kids friends flipped her car over the concrete median and rolled it. She walked away with a small knot on her head. She said that she remembered to duck because it was a convertible!

Holy carp, glad she is OK. No one else in car? Car a goner? What kind was it?

After my kid totaled her first car (she has only one notch so far but we're still early in the game), I bought her a F150 figuring that would keep her safe. She hated driving that truck. I got it now, I like it.

Lucky kid....at least she was wearing a seatbelt because she'd likely not survive that one witbout it. My twins drove a 2003 suburban with 210,000 miles on it for 18 months.....I think they hated me more than that truck. LOL

Growing up, we had available to us a '74 Pontiac Grand Safari station wagon  with a rusted gas tank (don't put more than $5 in it or it'll leak out) or a '76 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme that my brother had already wrecked so the front facia was bungee corded in place.  My minimum wage job provided about 30 minutes "joy riding" per hour of work.  In fact, I got my 10-speed after I got my license because I couldn't afford to drive back and forth to my lifeguard job.

I've said...the best car for a teen driver is an '82 Chrysler K-car (i.e. Dodge Aries).  Woefully underpowered, reasonable crush space, and something no self-respecting teen would be caught driving or riding as a passenger.

True story from the LB twin driving chronicles....

Twin - Dad, I need you to come outside and look at something

Me - Sure

(I go outside and see that the mailbox is on the ground and the ENTIRE drivers side of the Suburban is scraped)

Twin - I hit the mailbox

Me - how long did you hit if for.... because you got the whole damn side!!!

Twin - Well, I heard  it but I didn't see it

Me - Did it occur to you to stop as you were hearing it????

Twin - Sort of but I didn't see what was doing it

Me - it was the mailbox

Twin - I know but I didn't see it

Me - IT'S BEEN THERE YOUR ENTIRE FORKING LIFE!!!!!!!!!

Twin - I guess I forgot

To be continued......stand by for "how to destroy a 2003 Suburban in 17 months"

Jeez Fuzz, having this for a ride could cause significant emotional damage to most GenZ sensibilities. Brilliant.

Lefty: Still waiting for the rest of the story...

Glad she is ok!

In 1987 I flipped my brand new Z-28 Camaro and got ejected thru the T-tops. I woke up 3 days later in the ICU. Had I been wearing a seat belt I would have been decapitated as the car slip for 100 feet upside down and totally removed the top of the car.

The whole thing shook me up. I've known this young lady since she was 3. The lady behind her saw the whole thing and stopped. She said she really expected to see a body in the car when she walked up to it, that's how spectacular the crash was. She's 20 and has been driving the car off and on since she started driving, so I know she's familiar with the power. Her Dad tinkers with all his cars and that thing wasn't just a stock pony either. Evidenced by the fact that she was driving about 60 mph and hit the gas to change lanes; the whole back end got out from under the car and that's how she lost it. They own two other Mustangs, one a primo 60s convertible that her Mom had since HS. They also have an 80ish Explorer and imagine that's what she gets to drive until she's out on her own!

I've got my chickies in a slow VW bug and an even slower CRV.
