Last weekend I did a swim time trail and it went so well I lengthened it from 1 mile to 1.2 miles. master swim class is help out so much I thought I see how fast I could go and over a 1.2 mile swim I took off 22 mins. 1.2 miles is the farest I have gone so far, and I was pretty tired.

Well this weekend since my knee is still recovery I thought about a nice weekend swim. Instead of another time trail I thought it would be fun to see how far I can go. really without stopping too much except to pee. I will not pee in the pool. Also to add 1 more to lap counter and see just where I am and how long its taken me, but really no rest breaks.

Question is how far can I go? Any one want to wager a guess?

my guess is 2.4 miles since I figure if I can get that far I might as well stop since I do not know if I ever want to go farther than that but frankly doubt I will get there.

A little swim coaching goes a looong way!  Good job on your PR.

My wager is the same as yours.  If you think you can go 2.4 miles you probably can.  When I increased my distance in the pool I simply had a number in mind and no matter how tired I was, I swam until I reached it.

You can do it!  Let us know how you did.

Well I did my swim. I decided to stop at 2.4 miles. I guess its easier to push yourself when you have a distance out there to push too. I did the 2.4 miles in 2:08:51.

Now I did stop to pee twice and I stopped the watch then since if I was doing a race I would have to pee right where I was so I would not lose time. Funny. I did the whole thing free stlye except for 1 lap I did the back stroke. I did that after I think .5 miles too. I guess I thought I was going to need to do it alot but I it cost me alot of time so I figured screw it and did it freestyle who the rest of the way.

Congratulations!  That's quite the distance and time spent swimming.  Great achievement.

Thanks. Funny it turned out to be easier than I thought considering the other 2 events in Ironman. Makes me want to swim that length every weekend now so I can get better and better at it.

Just amases me how far I come from barely being able to swim .5 miles in late june or early July and that still took me 56 mins.

I was sore when I went to master swim class today though. Yes my coach was amased.

TAGP and I did a 3 mile open water swim this summer.  My time was just under 2 hours, she was somewhat faster than that.

Anyhow, if I can do that, so can anyone else.  Give it a shot!

You know my first swim atleast in a long long time and I never really trained at swimming was during my first tri and was .5 miles. even .75 miles seemed so long when I tried it once. Funny how you can keep going but form is very important. Work on form first and you will be surprised how easy everything comes.

since I start master swim about 1 month ago I have taken about 40 secs off my 50 meter time already jjust because of my form.
