Who's racing Ironman 70.3 Florida.
This is my first HIM, training is going fine and I'm feeling pretty good.

Any advice from former 70.3 FLA racers.

Where should I stay, Disney is out of the question because of $$$ and the crowds.

Thanks,

-Briian

I think there are quite a few BTers doing this race. Check out the Iron & Half-Iron forum and put a pulse out there, you'll probably get some hits.

Find a condo -- Marriott, Holiday Inn and Hilton have them, and I bet other hotel chains do, too. I stayed at a Marriot Vacation Club (or something like that) about 5 miles off Disney. Full size kitchen, great pools, etc.

However, if I raced this one again, I'd stay at Disney at the race site, which I think is the Wilderness Lodge. It's within walking distance of the race, you're on property so you don't have to worry about getting onto Disney and then catching the shuttles to the transition area, and your family can come and go as they please. Plus, you'll be on Disney on Saturday, when you pick up your packet, drop off your bike, attend the race meeting, etc., and then will be right back there the next day for the race. It's just less hassle.

This was a fun race, and my first HIM, too. Good luck!

Staying off property is definetly the financially prudent decision.  They will have buses taking you from a parking lot to the race site, no worries there.  Depending on your length of stay, a hotel or condo would be best.  If you're going to make it a vacation, look into renting a condo for 3-7 days.  About 6-7 of us split a really nice one for less than $30/day each.

About the race:  Be prepared for a lot of heat and very little shade on the run.  Also, the run will be part on asphalt and part in grass/dirt.  So keep that in mind.  The bike is surprisingly hilly considering it's Florida.  Overall, it's a good race and if you're there to 'race' save the Disney exploration for after the race.

Have fun!

I will be there as well, its also my first big event. I will be staying at the Fort willderness lodge.
Only 9 weeks till event. Holy $hit, when you break it down into weeks, it sounds closer that months. Training is going great so far, I hope I can drop a few more lbs befor race day though.

Good luck!
See you there,

I'm in. It's my first crack at a distance over Oly. But I'm very excited. I'll finish even if I have to crawl.

We're staying at the Nick Hotel just off of property. I'm big on the no hassle race morning, but the wife and kids really wanted to go Nick.

I agree with the comment that looking at the calendar makes it seem very very close. So everybody stay healthy from the flu and with training. We can't afford any downtime.

I'm going to start and finish, but I doubt there will be any racing in between.  My training for this event has been atrocious, but I'm still looking forward to it.  I guess today I'll need to figure out where I'm staying.
