Greetings everyone, I am a newbie to this sport. I recently underwent ACL reconstruction surgery a month ago, and am told that competitve basketball is out of the question atleast for a long while, so I have decided to set my sights on triathlons.

I should be able to start jogging in 3 or 4 weeks, and hopefully begin to build up from there. Has anyone had similar injuries??? Is it feasible to complete to work my way up to a sprint by the middle of July, ( i have put on about 10 lbs, 6'6", 215, and am out of shape)??? August???

Any and all Info would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Good luck with your knee, it will heal but it will take time.

Hello!

I had ACL and Meniscus reconstruction about 9 months ago at the age of 18. I'm a horseback rider and until about November it was the only exercise I was getting. I started jogging and quickly realized my knee( and ankle, but that's another injury) were very sensitive. I got some new shoes with some extra cushioning and it helped.

I really only started training for my first sprint tri(end of June) about two weeks ago. Quit smoking at about the same time. As far as my knee goes, I just take extra precautions. I went to a running store and got properly fitted for shoes( much better already!) and I use a compression sleeve. Start with biking and swimming. Don't push yourself if you feel pain/discomfort.

As for jogging, while you'll be allowed to do it...it won't feel too good to start but doing intervals(which are great for building endurance) help you get back into it without risking further injury.

Some people may have better advice but that's how I've been going about this crazy thing( what college kid has a better energy level if she wakes up at 5 am instead of 9?).
