Hello all.

I finished my first marathon(O.C. Inaugural) 4 weeks ago and I want to tri. I can't swim a lick without goggles and snorkel, haven't biked seriously in 30 years but I got the running part down.

Right now, since most of Southern California is building or planning to get on an arc. Serious cats and dogs coming down right now.

Hope to see some of you soon.

Hi 3W,

I added biking and swimming to running when I turned 50.  I thought it would be easier on the body.  I am sure that part is right.  Haven't had a knee or achilles tendon problem in 3 years.  Hope it works out well for you, too.

Hey! Another Southern Californian! Where are you from? Are you going to do the Huntington Beach Marathon?

Thanks all. Working the elliptical these days until I get my legs back from where I left them at Mile 24.

Hey, Mikey. I'm in North Hollywood. I got a shock this morning. I went outside this morning and saw my shadow! First time in two weeks. Not planning for the Huntington Beach run right now.

I'm currently researching bikes, swimming and what not. My 30 year old Schwinn Varsity looks pretty beat and bent. Any hints this side of $500.00 ?

Cool! I've bought two bikes off of eBay. It's kinda risky if you don't know how to look, but I paid $160 for a mint mid 90's Trek 1500. It was being sold by some guy in Long Beach, so I did a pick-up and saved $45 in shipping! I also bought a 1997 Trek OCLV for $900. i would say that this is the cheapest way, but you have to be careful because there are a lot of scam artists.

Did my first two sprint tri's last year at age 50 (after having open heart surgery in Dec. '00). Used my faithful 30 year old Schwinn Continental with a pair of clip on aerobars. I'm hooked now - planning on doing at least four sprints and maybe one Olympic distance race in '05.
Just ordered a new Cannondale R700 - can't wait to get it next week! Of course I won't be able to use my "old heavy bike" excuse any more...
