I'm locked into a gym membership at a facility without a pool, and am looking for some reasonably priced options in the columbia area (preferably near lexington). I've looked into the Y, Golds and New Life, but they're each a little more than I'd like to spend for pool access only. Any suggestions???

I work at Lexington Hospital and swim at the Harbison Pool before work. I paid ~$90 for a 3 month membership (basically $1/day). Generally it's not that crowded, but summer swim team practice has started so it does make lane selection a little challenging before 7 am. After 7AM, I usually have the pool to myself. Good luck.

I swim at the Drew Center on Harden street which has one of the best competition pools in the area. It also hosts the local Master's team practice M-Th 5:30-7:30 AM. I think it's $275 for the year for non Columbia city residents and a little less if you live in the city or work for the city.

At the Drew Wellness Center, does the masters swimming pretty much overtake the lanes that early? I like having the lanes to myself or sharing with one other person. Five years of swimming at the Strom on USC's campus will make you selfish.

I'd need to get my workout in before work and am trying to decide between the YMCA or the Drew.

I am looking into the same thing as I've decided I want to train for a triathalon..... The Y is $50 a month ($49/mo with autodebit).  Drew Wellness Ctr is $36/mo (no contract)- but you have the option of a 1 year contract for $240 ($20/mo) or a 6 mo contract for $180 ($30/mo).  Both the 1 yr and 6 mo contract must be paid up front.

Anybody work out at the Jeep Rogers Y (Lake Carolina) or the Drew Wellness Ctr? I am wondering how busy they both are at 6 AM and 7 AM...
