Subject: Swim coach in Foxboro area?

I definitely need a couple of lessons before my first race. I'm just not getting the technique down. Does anyone have a local coach they'd recommend? Ideally I'd like to meet at a local pond for some stroke work parallel to the shore on a beach.

A while back, I thought I might get into Total Immersion, and I looked at the "Find a coach" link on their web site. There's an instructor listed in Foxboro (http://www.bigdreamsfitness.com/), so that might be a place to start. I don't know if you're interested in TI, but she may do "regular" coaching as well, if you're not.

$.02 from the cheap seats,

Bob

I just ordered the TI Tri swimming book and video combo... so maybe. I looked that up earlier and she's quite expensive. Still a viable option if it comes to that. I'm just freaking out a bit because my first tri is just over a month away now and I'm still just not getting my stroke down.

of Weymouth, MA are both excellent swimmers as well as instructors! Not sure how easy it is to get from the Foxboro area to Weymouth. Check out their website at www.caansports.com to see if they have any clinics coming up. Les expensive than TI and they use a number of the same principles but take it one step further than any TI clinic I've done. Both Candy and Andy are world class Xterra champs and super nice people.

I've taken private lesson from Big Dream Fitness and attended clinics and masters Candy/Andy in Weymouth.

I still am BOP and never seem to get better after taking swim lessons/clinics last 3 off seasons...and spent probably $1K.

I wish I could say go to this person and they will help but I have yet to find the person that can help me after looking and trying many different options.

Have you asked at the Y about private classes...you may want to talk to the swim director when he is in and see if he could recommend someone. Some of the Y staff is good others just aren't that experienced helping triathletes learn to swim.

Hell, I don't need to get faster, I need to get consistent so I don't gas due to lack of proper breathing and get yanked out of Lake Pearl by my hair.

is that Candy and Andy picked up right away a HUGE problem in my technique that no one else had ever mentioned... and it shaved 15 minutes off my 1500 meter swim time - I'll never be fast in the water but I'm faster than I was.

Good Luck!

It looks like parts of your posts are getting lost. There is no info on who you're talking about.

Chad, look in the Subject line in Terry's posts.

Terry, don't do that (in my funny teasing voice)!  (but welcome aboard BT)

I am also from the south shore area and had trouble finding a swin coach.. I place several calls at some cubs and not ONE call back.. I did finally find a lifeguard at the local Y that was able to give me some tips...  I am finding that you just have to practice...

I recently completed one of Candy Angle's one on one clinics at the Weymouth Club.  It was two days before Cranberry and I shaved 4 minutes off my previous best 1500 meters without practicing anything she taught me.  I'll be practicing for sure (starting tonight actually).

Where on the south shore are you from?
