Subject: Biking in Johnson/Dogulas county

Since I have just started biking I think I am a pretty big hazard to myself and others when I am riding on a street so I was wondering where are some of the places you guys bike at in JO or DG county that are paved but still off the main road?

After I get off work tomorrow morning I am going to for a ride in Lawrence, I am going to try out the trail that starts by the aquatic center and goes over to Clinton park.  It looks like it might be a safe area for me.

There are many miles of paved bike trails in and around Johnson County that have little or no exposure to car traffic. The trails I'm most familiar with are Indian Creek, Mill Creek and Tomahawk Creek and the Olathe trail (which is connected to Indian Creek).

My favorite is probably Mill Creek. It connects to Shawnee Mission Park and probably has the most challenging hills. If you are wanting to just get used to your bike, Olathe/Indian Creek are relatively flat, though you might want to stay towards the Olathe side as I435 construction had caused some detours on Indian Creek the last time I rode it.

i like riding on roads vs trails... no runners or lades pushing strollers, dogs etc.

I think any where past 119th between mission and quivera or even further out is great... some good hills rollers and not that much traffic to deal with

I agree, but I guess I can see if someone is still getting used to their bike, it might be less intimidating to deal with Mrs. Longleash and her pack of Great Danes on the trail than Mr. Horsetrailer rambling by in the F350 on the road.

We've probably passed each other on the road, here's my standard ride, more or less:

Sunday Ride
