Comments: This is a pretty big race around here. It is touted as the NC USATF 5K championship. So there are plenty of elites and very fast people in this event. Went into the event hoping to break 20 minutes ... but fell a little short. As usual, I went out way too fast (6:05 1st mile). After that it ... I just tried to hold some semblence of speed. I didn't catch my 2 and 3 mile splits, but obviously I slowed quite a bit. I think if I can get somebody to pace me, I can break 20 minutes, but I always seem to go out way too hard that first mile. Sometimes I think stand-alone 5Ks are harder than Tris ... at least for me. Overall, considering it was still fairly hot out, I was pretty pleased. What would you do differently?: Pace the first mile better. Post race
Warm down: Got some water and fruit, found my wife, packed up and went for a pizza. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just overcooking that first mile and to some extent the heat. Event comments: TCTC puts on a great race. Plenty of volunteers, all kinds of food afterwards, and very organized. As I said earlier, this is a pretty important 5K in this area, and they definately rose to the occasion and put on a great race. http://www2.journalnow.com/content/2008/jul/14/over-500-are-expecte... The race started at 7 PM, so pretty much today was a normal day. Rode my bike 30 miles in the morning. Relaxed in the pool during the afternoon. Got to the race site about 6:15 PM. My wife and I walked around a little after I registered. Talked to a few friends.
Ran about a mile at 6:35PM. Nothing too fast. Like to see how the legs feel.
