The Tri2Remember training team is holding an OWS on August 16 and 23 at 8am at Red Top Mountain.  I just got an e-mail about it.  I don't know anything about Red Top.  Does anyone know where this is?

Probably means Red Top Mountain State Park on Lake Allatoona.  http://www.gastateparks.org/info/redtop/

Pete Farren's a good guy...classic crotchety older gent...  He runs OWS sessions for the local tri community and I believe he also helps out with Concourse Tri Club's Masters program.  Specific directions to Red Top are below:

I'm going this weekend.   I plan to swim the 1.2 miles.  Anyone else going?

OPEN WATER SWIM OPPORTUNITY

Swimming in a lake (open water) is a completely different experience than the pool. If you have never done an open water swim, it is highly recommended that you train in open water at least 2-3 times before your 1st triathlon.

Mark your calendars for this Saturday, August 23rd for Open Water Swim Practice at Red Top Mountain ...starting at 8 a.m.

There will be several kayaks in the water for safety, and you will also have an opportunity to receive critique/instruction from Swimming Coach Pete from the Concourse Triathlon Club. You will have you choice of doing 300 meters, 600 meters, 1200 meters or 1.2 miles.

There is a $3.00 parking fee for Red Top Mountain State Park (cash only).

Click here for directions: http://gastateparks.org/info/redtop/#directions.

From the Lodge, follow the asphalt path (about 200 yards) to the rock and bench.

This was a good group and a nice swim.  If you get a chance, come on out!  Some people did the 1.2 miles twice, so even the 1/2 IM could get in on this act.   I think they are doing this every other week, so next swim would be 9/13. (????)

Can you be sure to post when they do it again? I would love to try and be there next time. 9/13 would be perfect for me.

I am participating in the Tri2 Remember and have not had an OWS. Should I be worried?

No worries...I'd try to do one, but it will not ruin your race if you don't.  My suggestion:  go to Mary Alice Park (MAP) and do one on your own.  I was acutally thinking about trying to swim with a friend on Saturday afternoon (9/13) in the afternoon at MAP.  You're welcome to join us if we do.   I just have to see if my tennis plans conflict that day.  It's the only day this week when the weather is supposed to be good.
