Subject: how long is the race season?

So, the move is finally going to happen - my family will be joining me right after labor day - the commuting will be over

time to find out more about racing in PA

I will be living in Bucks county - are there any races in the area after Labor Day weekend?

There are a number of races in the early fall.  Two that come to mind and are relatively close to Bucks County are:

Sept 14 - Oly at Pinchot State Park in York County

Sept 14 - Marshman sprint in Downingtown

You can also find a listing under the "Races" tab at the top of all pages here on BT.

Thanks for the info

I tried the race link, but didn't come up with much

one of my biggest problems is that I have no reference for where things are, so when I search on races, I don't know if they are 1 hour or 5 hours away

I know I'll learn

You have a lot of choices if you expand your range to Jersey.  Depending on where you will be in Bucks County, at 5AM, you are only about 70 minutes from the Jersey Shore.  A couple of good choices there that are still open- War at the Shore in Long Branch on Sept 21 (ocean swim).  There is the Endless Summer Tri in Long Beach Island and a new one by Seaside Heights, in Island Beach State Park, I believe, in early October. There's the Bassman almost-Olympic the first weekend in October and the new JerseyMan tri in Hunterdon County, NJ (may be further away for you or not all that bad-depends on the part of Bucks County you are in- that's the area of NJ I don't know well at all).  There's also the Vineland Exchange Club Tri in South Jersey in September.  If you're comfortable being in the water, you can also volunteer to be a swim angel in Danskin Sandy Hook, NJ (just south of NYC across the bay)- the race itself sold out in about a day in March.

Tri season typically ends around the end of September- water much warmer then than back in May.

Just stay far, far away from the Pine Barrens Tri, which is about the closest Jersey race to you.   Since I've never actually done a tri in PA, even though some of them are close enough for me not to stay over the night before, I can't give you advice there.

Bucks County is pretty centrally located for travel (within a couple of hours) from DE and MD to the South East, the Jersey Shore to the East, New York City to the North East, Central PA eastward and possibly West VA due south. That is a big area with lots of people and races in it. This includes Tri's, road and mountainbike racing, adventure racing... Usually by Oct. Tri's are done due to water temps but you can still find running races. There are a number of Marathons and Half's around. The road and mountain bike riding and running goes all year because it doesn't become bitterly cold too often so you can do some training all year. If you wanted to do some early season racing you can be properly prepped.

Where are you moving to in Bucks Co? I live in Lansdale which is right near the Bucks County Line. Most of my road riding is in Bucks County because the traffic is better.
