Subject: RE: Kettlebell Goddess I'm a huge KB fan. I got my wife the Goddess DVD, but unfortunately she doesn't like it all that well because it's not "entertaining." I tell her "Do you want to be entertained or do you want to get strong?" She gives me a dirty look when I say that so I just let it go.
I've been experimenting with Kenneth Jay's VO2max protocol. Here's KJ's Web site: http://www.thedaneofpain.blogspot.com/
He has a few protocols that he's designed but the one I do is the 15:15. I actually do a simplified version where I do 15 seconds of snatches or swings (I do swings mostly ) for as many reps as I can, then rest 15 seconds, then do it again. Keep going until you die. Just kidding. I've done 10 minutes with the 32 kg followed by 5 minutes with the 24. This is harder than it sounds. Lots harder. But it works. I did a Spinervals workout the other day having not ridden in quite some time, and although my legs were burning, I wasn't really breathing all that hard. I seriously think that this protocol can be used in place of endless amounts of slow running and riding to build an aerobic base. Obviously, we'll still need to run and bike and all, but I think this protocol offers a great shortcut to building some serious aerobic capacity. Then again, I'm an endurance sports heretic. |
